As the ICANN #40 meeting has closed, there is a new timeline for the new gTLD program.
ICANN will probably announce the start of the new gTLD program during the upcoming ICANN #41 meeting in Singapore. As there will be further negotiations with the GAC the timeline is still a draft.

The view from the welcoming cocktail reception at .NXT was impressive, especially considering the venue. But the lights of the Hyatt aside, I found myself surrounded by an amazingly varied group of people, all of them revving up for the next wave of top-level domains.
There were applicants, IP lawyers, registries, registrars, DNS providers, and curious onlookers gathered for the event, from as far away as Japan and as local as just around the block.
I met one gentleman who told me he was planning on applying for a new TLD, but he wouldn’t tell me what it was. “I’m keeping it a secret for now,” he said.
