ICANN approves historic DNS change and launches new gTLDs

ICANN approved the introduction of a theoretical unlimited number of new gTLDs today at its 41st meeting in Singapore.

"Today's decision will usher in a new Internet age," said Peter Dengate Thrush, Chairman of ICANN's Board of Directors.

New gTLDs will change the way users find information on the Internet and how businesses structure their online presence. Domain names will soon be able to contain a variety of endings offering name owners the opportunity to market their brand, product, service or promote awareness of a specific cause in new and innovative ways. ...click for more

Abusive URS filings - Insufficient Penalties for Abusive Complaints

The Uniform Rapid Suspension System (URS) is designed to offer trademark holders a quick and low-cost procedure to take down infringing websites although trademark groups are lobbying for a URS domain name transfer option. While UDRP proceedings are fairly expensive, the URS administration fees will probably cost around USD 300 only.
