gTLD Revolution CEO Dean Shannon, serial internet entrepreneur and founder of successful internet businesses such as Dark Blue Sea, Fabulous.com and many more, has announced his intention to revolutionise the Internet domain space by providing genuine choice and flexibility for Internet users worldwide while generating competition and much-needed price pressure on Verisign’s .com monopoly.

gTLD Revolution will apply for a range of new TLDs, from fully-open direct challengers to .com to smaller, niche-focussed TLDs that will service particular market segments. The launch phase for each of these TLDs will feature best-practice Rights Protection Mechanisms to ensure that trademark holders from around the globe are able to effectively and efficiently protect their interests in these exciting new domain spaces.

Mission

The company gTLD Revolution is applying for the ability to be the registrar for a number of proposed new top-level domains. Motivated by the idea that there is currently a lack of meaningful remaining generic top-level domain names available, the company hopes to provide alternative as well as useful domain name extensions. Among them will be the domain .web.

The new .web domain space will be the first truly generic space to compete directly with the increasingly overcrowded .com space. It will introduce a vast new range of domain choices to businesses and individuals around the world and will be the platform for a number of innovative domain-based services. If the .web TLD comes to frutition, expect some of the following domains to be available and sought after:

  • poker.web
  • basketball.web
  • shopping.web

The top-level domain .web will be aggressively priced at the registry level to promote growth and user acceptance.
