The potential top-level domain .site is a new Internet extension currently being proposed as part of the new gTLD Program being implemented by ICANN. .site is an intuitive, refreshingly new namespace for individual Internet users, hobbyists, and business owners allowing them to extend their reach out into the world with an easily identifiable Internet extension.

The proposed top-level domain .site is a new Internet extension (new generic top-level domain or new gTLD) being proposed by UrbanBrain Inc., a Japanese corporation and contributing member of the ICANN international community.

Mission

25 years ago, in 1985, .com, .net, and .org were born. Back then there weren’t a lot of people who understood the Internet and its potential. The number of names registered remained fairly low for a very long time. But today, domain name registrations in these three domain extensions surpasses 110 million names. The .com extension alone represents an astounding 90 million names.

During the last decade, the domain name industry has seen the number of registrations quadruple. With several emerging economies joining the technological revolution, more and more people are getting connected. In order to provide more consumer choice, drive competition, and spark innovation, the non-profit organization which oversees the Internet’s namespace, ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has introduced a process to expand the currently available Internet extensions. This expansion could yield hundred of new extensions and .site aims as being in the forefront of the Internet revolution.
