The Dot-Peace organization is proposing a domain name to represent peace around the world. The organization hopes to acquire the top-level domain name and dedicate it to the worldwide peace community with the hopes of increasing peaceful ventures everywhere. The ending itself would exist as a so-called "generic top-level domain" (gTLD) along side other propsed names such as .nyc, .paris and .web. There are currently various other gTLDs already in operation including .com, .mil, .gov, .info, .travel and .asia and ICANN will likely soon open the door for more TLD applications.

Mission

The .peace top-level domain is proposed to be a unifying label on the Internet, developed exclusively for the peace community. Providing information and resources to the public, and a clear identity for peace stakeholders and the resources they offer, .peace will be the place to access and share information on peace worldwide. The .peace TLD is proposed to be an open (non-restricted) TLD. This means that it will be open to any organization, groups, youth communities, persons that are interested in spreading the concept of peace.

Advantages

Anyone would be able to register so-called "third-level" domains that aren’t based on currently reserved or copyrighted keywords. Second-level domains could be subject to special sunrise process, as there are likely to be multiple interested parties. The Dot Peace organiyation is exploring options for possible safeguards to ensure that such domains aren’t exploited to the detriment of the Peace community.
