The people behind the .hiv TLD are a small group of people who have been engaged with the .hiv-initiative for quite some time. As employees of an advertising agency they have dealt with the issue of HIV/AIDS before, for instance, during several projects in cooperation with the Michael Stich Foundation. The initiative is backed by the charitable incorporated organisation gut.org, that is managed by Till Behnke and Michael Tuchen. Chairman of the .hiv charitable organisation is Bernd Kundrun.

Mission

The initiative for .hiv is a global idea to fight HIV and AIDS. By the end of 2010, the number of people diagnosed with HIV will have reached 150 million and AIDS remains a deadly diagnosis - the virus must be stopped.
The Plan: The association supporting the .hiv top-level domain wants to fight HIV and AIDS using the power of the Internet by establishing a TLD named .hiv.

Vision

as the world's population grows larger, so too do the list of the problems it has to face. There is one problem that is growing exceptionally fast--HIV. Currently 35 million people are infected with the virus and the disease it can lead to, AIDS, remains deadly and kills more than 2 million people every year. But there's another number that's growing, a number that's far larger and far more powerful. It's also growing a lot faster--the number of people using the Internet. The combined power of the world's Internet users is enough to beat HIV.

The initiative hopes to pass on profits from the sale of .hiv domains to groups working to defeat the virus--research projects, charitable projects, health organizations, educational workers and others. Thus, .hiv becomes the focal point against the global fight against HIV and AIDS.
